When we tell the kids what to look like, we tell them they're ugly.

The boy hides his pretty face behind curly long hair and is ashamed of his ears. The girl hides her narrow body in a sweater that is too wide and her hands which are too big in a pants pocket that is too deep.

When we tell the children what to be, we tell them that they are bad.

The little boy who loved his piano became a lawyer.

Who defended him?

The little girl who loved the ballet became a priestess.

Who believed in her?

If we tell the children when the time is right for singing and dancing,

for joy and grief,

anger has no place,

we tell them they are wrong.

The little girl who hatched the best tricks is a control freak today.

Creativity was stolen from her.

The little boy who gave his thoughts to the wayside works as a prison guard. Peace and serenity became a threat.

Were you allowed to jump through puddles?

Always, except Sundays and when one of the big ones watched.

Did you climb trees and steal cherries?

Often, when they were ripe, except Sundays and when there was no observation.

Did you smoke cigarettes in the schoolyard, hidden behind the wall? Sometimes, except Sundays, when I felt heroic and thought no one would notice.

Attempts at bribery were useless.

The love to your child must be limitless.

Courage him to see the world.

His world.

Make it discover the world.

His world.

Stand by him.

Trust him.



Let the children be children and their souls will not be broken.
